The Forsyth Youth Orchestra (FYO) is a community based orchestra that has been created for young string players who live in and around Forsyth county. Its purpose is to provide an opportunity for these musicians to enhance their music education with an orchestral performance experience.
Highlights of our May 2 Concert: “Georgia On My Mind”
This concert will feature music written by some of Georgia’s finest composers. Our audience will have the rare opportunity to listen to music by Michael Kurth, Richard Bell, Martin Norgaard, Malcolm Parsons, Richard Bell, Tim Aucoin and Seth Gamba among others.
The FYO is thrilled to perform the world premiere of the string orchestra arrangement of “Solitude” by Malcolm Parson. This arrangement was dedicated to the FYO by the composer and will feature Myrtil Mitanga as the cello soloist.
Myrtil Mitanga was born in Germany, and began learning the cello at the age of four when she moved to Atlanta, GA with her family. She graduated from Atlanta International School in 2013, and is currently in her second year at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL where she studies the cello with Hans Jorgen Jensen. She was a semi-finalist in the Sphinx Competition Junior Division in 2012 and 2013, and a winner in the 2013 Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition. In January of 2014 she performed the final movement of the Lalo Cello Concerto with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Myrtil is excited to perform “Solitude” with the Forsyth Youth Orchestra.
