The Forsyth Youth Orchestra (FYO)  is a community based orchestra that has been created for young string players who live in and around Forsyth county. Its purpose is to provide an opportunity for these musicians to enhance their music education with an orchestral performance experience.

Highlight of our December 6th concert

The FYO is thrilled to showcase Rachel Corbitt performing “Gabriel’s Oboe” by Ennio Morricone. This beautiful piece of music is the main theme of the 1986 film “The Mission”.  Ms. Corbitt is in her third year majoring in Biology and minoring in Music at Emory University as an Ely R. Callaway Jr. Emory Scholar. She grew up in Forsyth County, and studied oboe with Barbara Cook through high school. She was a member of the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony, the Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, and she regularly participated in the GMEA All-State band. Rachel is continuing her studies with Dane Philipsen at Emory and performs in the Emory Wind Ensemble and the Emory University Symphony Orchestra. She is also involved in biomedical research studying proteins involved in muscle development. Rachel hopes to attend graduate school for cell biology and have a career in cancer research.
